Office 2016 for mac excel crashing

I have triedĭeleting the Office preferences files - which helped initially with Word/Excel but didn't resolve the problem with PowerPoint - once PowerPoint crashed once, Word/Excel went back to crashing. Whenever they try to open Word/Excel/PowerPoint docs from the SharePoint sync drive, the local apps crash. I have two users in my office who are running Office for Mac 2016 (16.11) on very new Macbook Pros running MacOS 10.13.1.
